5 Ways to help you get out of bed in the morning

Updated: Jul 10, 2021

Do you find it hard to motivate yourself? Especially in the morning when you’ve just woken up and you’re trying to find ANOTHER reason to keep working. Whether you’re working on a future dream, a project for school, or you just have somewhere to be, these 5 reasons will surely help you jump out of your bed screaming ‘halleluja’ wanting to get ready for the day. Let’s hit it.

Give yourself something to look forward to

Having the same routine every day can make your morning seem boring, however if you choose an activity that you enjoy doing, it turns the whole situation around. This can be literally anything, like a nice breakfast you love to eat, a T.V show you love to watch, or you could even go to a place that you like. This is one of the best ways to wake up as you're starting the day in a positive manner, and it'll help that mood carry on throughout the day. The possibilities are endless, because only you know exactly what you would like to do and I'm sure that you'll something.

Set your alarm to a song that motivates you

If an activity isn't enough to get you up and going, setting your alarm to a sound that motivates you could be a good idea. This doesn't have to be a song either, it could be an audio of someone speaking, with motivational quotes. For example, for the past 6 months I've been using an audio by Jocko Willink, a retired naval officer who served in the Navy SEAL's. In the video he starts counting to 10, and after 10 seconds starts a motivational speech by David Goggins, an incredible athlete with an even more incredible story. I always try to turn off the alarm before it hits the 10 second mark, and so far it's worked, so if you've ever listened to a song or audio that pumped you up, try setting it as your alarm.

Self talk

Going off of the last technique, with self talk, you're kind of becoming your own alarm. If you become your own motivational speaker, the things that you hear might mean a lot more to you. When you speak to yourself, you are the one who chooses what to say, therefore the information is directed to you more than anyone. Make sure to be careful with what you say though, because talking negatively to yourself can completely change the whole purpose of this exercise. There is a thing called negative motivation, which I will be covering with more depth in another post, which is basically a way of creating fear of not being what you want to become, which ends up helping some people because it makes them realise the urgency of improvement. This might help you, but if you've never tried it before, watch out because you might end up putting yourself down more than lifting yourself up.

Put your alarm far away from you

This technique has helped me massively since I started doing it. When I have my alarm right next to me when I wake up, I tend to hit the snooze button more often because even though the alarm wakes me up, i don't necessarily have to move much of my body to turn it off, which causes me to fall back asleep. I'm sure most of you can relate, and that's why moving your alarm far away enough that you have to stand up and walk away from your bed can help. If you continue this exercise by staying out of bed and not going back, it can be pretty easy to then crack on with your day. If none of the previous methods have helped, this one could be the one. Remember, the further away you put your phone the better, but don't put it so far away that you can't even hear the alarm. Yeah that wouldn't be so great.

Have a 'WHY'

This section is going to have more of a deeper meaning than the others, I left it till last because it isn't really a 'technique' or a 'method'. We aren't going to be around forever, so spending our time making excuses not to be productive is an insult to the life we have. Instead of waking up, snoozing your alarm, and then going back to sleep, realise that today could be the last day you have on Earth, none of us know how much time we have left. So don't spend half of your day sleeping, get out there, do something you enjoy, be productive with the time you have. Cherish the things around you, because I'm sure that there's someone out there who would kill to have the opportunities that you have. So, are you going to snooze that alarm again, or are you going to realise who you are and smash the day!

So as I said in the last post, I'm going to d a piece of homework for you all after every post I do, something to help you on your self-improvement journey. Today's homework is try out at least 1 of these methods, it would be great to try them all though, and tell me which one helped you the most. Hope this post helped, and I'll see you in the next one.
